Fall may have just begun, but soon Santa Claus will swing by Burlington.

The 5th Annual Santa 5k is happening December 6. On Thursday Ri-Ra’s Irish Pub on Church Street held a kickoff party where runners were able to register or donate.

A portion of the proceeds from the 5k benefit Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, which provides programs for children with cancer.

“One thing that we realized is that when a child is diagnosed, it’s not just the child that’s affected, it’s really the whole family,” Hattie Johnson, Executive Director of Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, said. “So it is events like this, the Santa 5k that raise money to help us put on the programs that we do for these children and their families.”

The first 1,400 people to register for this year’s race get a Santa suit to run in.

Last year around 1,500 Santas ran for the cause.

Local 44 is a proud sponsor of the family fun event.
